Every child in the 60's knows that song, Catholic school or public and I remember the book it was in. Also had Erie Canal. See we can remember things... PS One of my favorites and so sad! I feel a childrens book coming on.
Ah yes, and "It stopped short Never to go again, When the old man died." ....my Grandfather's clock. Such an intimate connection with an eerie inanimate object. Great song, but one wonders how children don't have nightmares after singing it.
