Also, does anyone actually eat gumdrops? You always seen them portrayed them in the media, but you never see anyone eat them in real life. For that matter, who uses thimbles?

Thimbles are useful when you happen to be sewing by hand and don't want to insert the needle into your fingertips. Of course, I'm sure sewing by hand might be a foreign concept to the Elderly Apple Guy.

They also make nice shot glasses for Leprechauns.

I use a thimble all the time since I'm a seamstress and designer. Any sewer knows that handling a tiny sharp pointed object such as a needle requires special gear.
